Scotland gives you the freedom to create a wedding day that feels completely your own, whether that’s exchanging vows beneath the mountains of Glencoe, beside a quiet Cairngorms loch or amongst the dramatic landscapes of Skye.

I’m Matt, a Scotland elopement photographer specialising in relaxed, couple photography. Rather than spending your day working through a list of poses, I’ll gently guide you when needed and concentrate on the real moments, landscapes and little details that make your elopement yours.

Having eloped in Glencoe myself, I also know there’s much more to planning a Scottish elopement than choosing a photographer. I can help with locations, timings, light and creating a photography plan that makes the most of your day.

We chose him based on his photography style - classic storytelling which captures the mood of the highlands without washing out the natural colours of the day (something we had found very difficult to find). Matt was great to work with - responsive and super helpful and didn’t require loads of admin from us (which was great in the lead up when we had so much to do). He helped provide ideas on locations/timings for photos and was up for some of the more out there suggestions we had - like hiking up a mountain. He was also great with our on the day itinerary changes - when I took too long getting ready so had to move couples photos to after the ceremony - and when we spent too long chatting to guests so had to abandon our planned hike and decided to take paddle boards out last minute. I’m a Scotland elopement photographer specialising in relaxed, natural photography for couples choosing to get married somewhere a little more wild.

Originally from Northern Ireland, I moved to Scotland in 2015 and quickly fell in love with its landscapes. From Glencoe and the Cairngorms to the Isle of Skye, I get to photograph couples in some of the most incredible places in the country.

My approach is simple: less posing, more being yourselves. I’ll give you direction when you need it, but I want your photographs to feel natural and genuinely reflect the two of you.

What is a Scottish Elopement?

A Scottish elopement is an intimate and personal way to get married, with the focus firmly on the two of you and the experience you want to share.

Eloping doesn’t have to mean secretly running away or getting married without your family. Modern elopements can include your closest friends and family, meaningful traditions and an entire day of exploring somewhere incredible.

In Scotland, that could mean exchanging vows beneath the mountains of Glencoe, beside a quiet loch or somewhere completely off the beaten track.

Inside each environmentally friendly Hall Photography luxury keepsake box is a hi-spec USB-3 drive containing all your fully edited photos from your day. Also included is a selection of 8 high quality prints curated by us.
There is also space to store special mementos in the box – whether a shell from the beach, dried wedding flowers or even cufflinks from the day.

My photography style is focussed on capturing authentic moments between couples. It’s important for me to focus on the special moments between the couple.
A wedding is all about the couple and their love, and that’s what I focus on and not spend time manufacturing lots of different stiff poses. Where needed I can gently guide you and before the special day I will share a short guide on easy and relaxed poses to help you feel more comfortable in front of the camera.
My editing style is fine-art, which means a timeless and classic style, which isn’t going to age or look dated.

Hall Photography is based near Edinburgh and photographs elopements and intimate weddings across Scotland, including Glencoe, the Cairngorms, Isle of Skye and the wider Scottish Highlands.

Travel is included within selected photography packages, and I’m always happy to discuss plans for more remote locations across Scotland.

Scottish weather can be very changeable and it’s not uncommon to experience sun, rain, wind and even snow in one day!
It is all part of the fun of photography in Scotland and we will still go ahead – but it’s important to be prepared for every weather eventuality, bring warm and weatherproof clothing just in case. And have fun making a splash!
