BEHIND HALL PHOTOGRAPHY
Your Scotland Elopement Photographer

Hello,
I’m Matt
I’m a Scotland elopement photographer based near Edinburgh and working throughout the highlands photographing couples who want their wedding day to feel relaxed, personal and completely their own.
Originally from Northern Ireland, I moved to Scotland in 2015 and quickly fell in love with its landscapes. What started as a love of travel and landscape photography gradually became a love of photographing people, and eventually led me to launch Hall Photography.
My approach is simple: I want you to spend your elopement enjoying the experience, not performing for the camera. I’ll offer a little direction when you need it, but I’m much more interested in the real moments between you, the laughter, nerves, windswept hair, quiet pauses and everything that happens naturally in between.
The result is natural, timeless photography that still feels like you when you look back at it years from now.
I eloped in Glencoe
In 2020, my wife and I chose to elope in Glencoe. With the uncertainty of the pandemic around us, we decided to forget about trying to plan the traditional wedding we thought we were supposed to have and instead create a day that felt right for us.
It turned out to be one of the best decisions we could have made.
That experience is a big part of why I love photographing elopements today. I understand why couples choose something smaller and more personal — and that an elopement isn’t about having less of a wedding. It’s about having more freedom to decide what actually matters to you.
Whether that means exchanging vows beneath the mountains in Glencoe, exploring the Isle of Skye or disappearing into the Cairngorms for the day, your elopement should feel like your wedding, your way.
Photographs that feel like you
You don’t need to know how to pose or spend your wedding day wondering where to put your hands.
My photography is couple and moment-led. Rather than constantly staging photographs, I’ll give you space to enjoy what’s happening and step in with some simple direction whenever it’s useful.
That allows me to capture the big landscapes Scotland is famous for without losing the smaller moments that make the photographs personal, a look between you, a hand being squeezed, laughter when the weather inevitably does something Scottish.
My editing follows the same philosophy. I favour a timeless, fine-art style with natural colours rather than trends that could quickly date your photographs.
The landscape might be spectacular, but the two of you are always the story.
A love for Scotland and its wild places
After years spent exploring and photographing Scotland, I know there’s much more to choosing an elopement location than simply finding somewhere that looks good in a photograph.
From the mountains and glens of Glencoe and the Highlands to the Cairngorms, Edinburgh and the Isle of Skye, I can help you think about light, weather, timings, accessibility and locations that suit the kind of day you actually want.
Scotland rarely sticks to the weather forecast, and that’s part of its character. Being willing to adapt often leads to some of the most memorable photographs.
Ready to start planning yours?
If you’re planning an elopement or intimate wedding in Scotland and my approach sounds like the right fit for you, I’d love to hear what you’re planning.
You don’t need to have everything figured out yet. Tell me what you know so far, and we can take it from there.
